Captain's Message:
Happy Passover Matza boys! I hope you all are having a nice Pesach and that you all got yourselves and your shiksa significant others (or Jewish - Dennis make your Yenta kvel) to a Seder. I just wanted to send you all a big thank you for your efforts in the tourney this year before I forget what happened - it was great fun as always for me and my family, and as usual, we had a great group of Mensches to make things just right. It's funny playing once a year. We're not a team in the sense of having regular practice, opportunities, or even set plays. But from our first huddle, the team thing builds, and when we click on the field and off, it's awesome. I don't know about you, but until we lost it in the semi, I was watching our play and enthusiasm and feeling no different than I have on any of the great teams I've played. Except I'd describe it differently - pure nachas!
It was bitter losing in the semis, especially when we had those Seattle boys all farblungent like that. No doubt we gave it away, being up 11-8 with the disc. But I came away very proud of us, our unity, and our highly competitive yet honorable play from start to finish. We did not sink when they got scared and played as they did, and even though we can be testy with one another (oy!), we represented ourselves with style and much Ruach (spirit).
I want to send a few big thank yous out to a few of our fellow Balls:
To Marcia: The soup and motherly love made our bellies sing!
To Joe: For an amazing web-site that we can all feel proud of.
To Chris: Your presence, despite the pain to our bottom line, was inspirational - we've got some funds in a conservative growth account that'll be nice and ready for your journey out next year.
To Marc: For supporting Chris to come and being an all-around great teammate!
To Dennis: For going from Seattle to the Bay Area and back twice in two days in order to make it this year. The Rabbi's are smiling on you.
To Josh, for all the heart, to Jeff Landesman, for all the soul, and to Mike Payne, for all the might.
To Russell for the shlepp and the shirt off your back, to Craiger for the 46 year-old shredding, to Spenser for focused grrr, to Seth for even getting on the field, then skying in the end-zone, and to Scott for the perennial legs.
To Pete for the tireless D, to Jacob the offensive workhorse, to Dan for taking rookie abuse and answering with brilliant throws, to Jason for huddle smiles and endless unstoppable cuts, to Aaron for all the effort and that sick catch in the semis, and to Eli for his quiet and gutsy athleticism.
To all of you, thanks for taking time to be Jewish, to bond with your brothers, to be awake.
I am training for next year, running, riding, working on getting some new music and a few new dances (we need more dances!). If any of you active ulti players want to get some great cross-training in, come mountain biking with Seth and I on the week-end. You won't be disappointed.
Til next year...Shalom!
David
